New innovation award to Bicester business; matching energy supply and demand

A team of engineers have won innovation funding from the Technology Strategy Board to use technology to wire a house so that the use of energy is more efficient.

The team, comprising Carnego, Zeta LED Techonolgy and BioRegional, will look at how more power can be used when the solar panels are actually generating electricity and less when the typical peak demand occurs in the early evening; this will mean taking electricity directly from the solar photovoltaic panels on the roofs to use that power in the most efficient way possible.

This will reduce pressure on the local electricity grid and make more efficient use of the locally generated green electricity within each home.

The project is for 1 year and the new designs will be trialled on a test house on the new development.
